Mahatma Gandhi Ahimsa is a term meaning "do no harm". The word is derived from the Sanskrit root hims - to strike; himsa is injury or harm, a-himsa  is the opposite of this, i.e. non harming or nonviolence . In general, I consider myself a pretty non-violent person. I am caring and am continuously trying to understand other people. Still, I often cause harm through ignorance and misunderstanding. It is easy for many of us to forget about the importance of being more than "good" - the importance of being intelligently good.  At the beginning of this week, I carried out a  violent action .  In the effort of challenging myself, I went too far and strained my upper hamstrings. A registered yoga school with Yoga Alliance in India conducts 200 hour residential hatha yoga teacher training and yoga instructor course (RYT 200) throughout the year in Rishikesh (a spiritual town nestled in the lap of Himalayas, also known as yoga capital of the world).

Julia Roberts in “Eat, Pray, Love” had to scrub the floors of the meditation hall. We had to help build a new ashram. Construction site of Yoga Ashram On one of the beautiful Sunday mornings, we all got into a few taxis that took us up the hill along the Ganga River to the new construction site. When we got off we found that the only way to get to the place was a pretty difficult 30-minute hike. The narrow and windy path up the hill was rather challenging, but the view from the ashram paid off for every drop of sweat. Before we started working we took a little trip to the nearby village, where one of the locals gladly showed us his awesome property.
